It is difficult to fully evaluate a patient without being seen directly in clinic. Most candidates for fetal therapy require an amniocentesis, fetal echocardiogram and fetal MRI to fully characterize the abnormality and to exclude other structural or chromosomal abnormalities. The decision to undergo fetal treatment is complex and a face-to-face consultation will usually be beneficial.Traveling far from home can make medical treatment even more stressful, and that’s why every family coming to Texas Children's Fetal Center is paired with a nurse coordinator who’s highly trained in the needs of patients with fetal abnormalities. This not only guarantees patients and families a direct link to medical information, insight and explanation, but it provides them with a familiar face and support during visits. The coordinator is available to the family from the moment they walk in the door till treatment is complete. For more information about traveling to Houston, call the Texas Children's Hospital Guest Services 4 Star Line at 832-824-7827.
