In the summer of 1974, Texas Children’s Hospital was a small subsidiary of St. Luke’s/Texas Heart Institute – home of Dr. Denton Cooley’s renowned cardiovascular surgery program. However, a pediatric giant was about to stir. Specialists in the (then) small Baylor Department of Pediatrics were exploring new frontiers in the care of infants and children.

Our lives were forever changed when our twin girls were born at 27 weeks on July 19, 2015. We struggled with infertility and were overjoyed to find out we were expecting twins, but were also nervous at the same time. I had a relatively smooth pregnancy until my water broke without warning one night.

We sat in the low-lit room, both marveling and relieved to see our son’s little heartbeat. It was March 5, 2014, a date that changed our lives forever. As first time expecting parents, we were excited to go to our 19-week anatomy scan.

My husband and I discovered we were having twins at our first ultrasound of our first pregnancy. After the initial shock, we were simply elated to receive such a blessing. It wasn’t until week 25 that we knew something was wrong.

On Feb. 23, 2016 my husband and I were happy to learn we were expecting twins. This was the very first set of twins for both sides of our families.
