Personal Statement

I am a board certified pediatrician and pediatric cardiologist with expertise in pediatric echocardiography, especially 3-dimensional echo as well as fetal cardiology. In the 15 years that I have practiced pediatric cardiology, I have focused on patient centered care and enhancing the experience of families by shared decision making. I have received training in Quality and Performance Improvement as well as LEAN methodology and am an avid proponent of improving health care outcomes and delivery as well as increasing efficiency while reducing waste. As Director of Echocardiography, I have successfully implemented processes to standardize imaging and communication, reduce patient wait times and a team based collaborative approach to decrease diagnostic errors in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. I have a special interest in teaching medical students, residents and fellows. My research interests are focused on echocardiographic quantitation of cardiac function including deformation imaging and reproducibility of measurements, quality improvement and investigation of the frailty paradigm in the pediatric and young adult patient with congenital heart disease.
