Personal Statement

Dr. Kathryn Ostermaier graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University in 1992 with a B.S. degree in Genetics. She completed medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in 1996 and did her Pediatric Residency at Baylor College of Medicine from 1996 - 1999. After completing her training, she joined Baylor as faculty. She has been committed to providing the best care possible to children with special health care needs, and started the Special Needs Clinic at Ben Taub General Hospital in 2001, one of only 2 such clinics in the area at the time. She became Board Certified in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics in 2004. In 2005, she became the Clinic Chief for the Texas Children's Spina Bifida Clinic. In 2007, she started the Special Needs Primary Care Clinic at Texas Children's Hospital, which is now the largest clinic of its kind in southeast Texas. She then became the Clinic Chief for the Down Syndrome Clinic of Houston at Texas Children's Hospital starting October 2009.

Dr. Ostermaier's clinical and research interests are related to caring for children with a wide range of chronic and complex medical conditions, and additionally, providing the best collaborative and coordinated care possible for patients and families.
