Lucy J. Puryear, MD, associate professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Menninger Department of Psychiatry, is board certified in psychiatry. Dr. Puryear holds the Maureen Hackett Endowed Chair for Reproductive Psychiatry. She serves as the Medical Director of "The Women's Place: Center for Reproductive Psychiatry" and the co-director of The Menopause Center at Texas Children's Pavilion for Women.
Dr. Puryear earned her medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine. She completed her internship in psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine, followed by a residency in psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine. She also completed training in psychoanalysis at the Houston-Galveston Psychoanalytic Institute.
Dr. Puryear has been recognized by Texas Monthly as a "Super Doc" and by H Texas Magazine as one of the "Best Doctors in Houston" and "Best Doctors for Women", as well as being named to "Best Doctors in America."
Her clinical interests include the treatment of psychiatric conditions during pregnancy and postpartum, perimenopause, infertility and reproductive loss. She served as an expert witness in the Andrea Yates trial and retrial.
