About

I believe that you know your body best and you are the boss! Menstruation, sex, pregnancy, birth and menopause are normal physiologic transitions and miraculous opportunities to tune in to your power.  I am excited to bring mindfulness and concern for the mind-body connection to your wellness while emphasizing autonomy and consent. You and your lived experience are the greatest authority on your health and well-being.

Prior to becoming a midwife, Micaela worked as a reproductive justice organizer throughout Texas and as a labor and delivery nurse at Lyndon B. Johnson and Ben Taub hospitals. As a new midwife, she attended deliveries at home and in birth centers and gained experience in physiologic labor, non-pharmacologic pain management, water birth, and complementary and integrative approaches. She is passionate about reimagining health care systems to better serve whole communities.

Clinical Interests:  hormonal and non-hormonal contraception, gender-affirming care and hormonal replacement therapy, trauma-informed care, physiologic birth, and sexually transmitted infection screening, prevention, and management

Research Interests:  politics of knowledge (ways of knowing/being and knowledge production), anthropology of reproduction, health policy, feminist theory, racism and health care, and LGBTQ+ fertility
