Personal Statement

Clinical Interests:

Dr. McClugage’s clinical interests include the treatment and care of patients with hydrocephalus and complex shunt problems, Chiari malformations, pediatric tumors of the brain and spine, pediatric spinal disorders and congenital spinal anomalies, such as spina bifida and occult spinal dysraphism (lipomyelomeningocele, tethered cord syndrome, dermal sinus tract), and pediatric neurovascular disorders, such as moyamoya disease, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) of the brain and spine, cerebral aneurysms, vein of Galen and cavernous malformations. He has a particular interest in using minimally invasive and endoscopic treatments in the care of pediatric cranial and spinal disorders.

Research Interests:

Dr. McClugage’s research interests include evidence-based surgical outcomes research, with the goal of improving best practice guidelines for surgical care. He has a particular interest in clinical outcomes research for pediatric neurovascular disorders, Chiari malformations, and hydrocephalus.
