Personal Statement

My midwifery career spans 30 years, originally receiving training in the U.K. For the last 20 years, I have been practicing in the U.S. To continue working as a midwife in the U.S., I have pursued midwifery education, attended Frontier Nursing University and State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate. I have assisted women at home, in hospitals and in a birth center setting, trying always to bring normalcy to the birth experience. I believe a positive birth experience is important for all women. As a midwife, I believe pregnancy and birth are normal physiologic events in a woman’s life. My role as a midwife is to offer women support and guidance during the miracle of childbirth. With support and preparation, I believe all women can experience an empowering birth. With support, women will find their strength. With increased strength and confidence, most women can achieve the birth experience they want, and they will move through pregnancy and birth feeling prepared for the challenges of motherhood. I believe that all women are strong.
